One of the strangest leaks of the iPhone 12 was the appearance of magnets inside the iPhone 12 chassis. Now YouTuber EverythingApplePro has detailed the strange magnet rings found inside all four iPhone 12 models.

In a new video, EveryThingApplePro reveals fresh leaked images showing a coil on the back of the phone, which is also in the official iPhone 12 case. And this magnetic coil apparently provides wireless charging through a "snap-in" system.

This was previously shown in other images, but these new renderings show the magnetic ring more clearly. The ring also appears to include a tightly wound short-range wireless communication coil.

Wireless charging coils are nothing new; both the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro support wireless charging, as does the iPhone SE 2020. However, the addition of magnets is an interesting addition.

The idea is that when the iPhone 12 is placed on a charging mat or vertical charger, it can be held in place using magnets. This way, you don't have to worry if you can't place the iPhone on the charger correctly, as the magnets will pull it into the right position every time. This eliminates the frustrating experience of taking the phone away from the wireless charger and realizing that it is not charging.

In theory, the magnet could also facilitate connection to other accessories, such as an expandable battery pack. However, this is something Motorola has experimented with in the past, and is not unlike Apple.

The iPhone 12 series is said to include standard 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch Max models, and 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and 6.7-inch Pro Max variants, all with a new flat-edge design and A14 Bionic chip; the Pro model is expected to feature a 120Hz refresh rate display and three cameras with LiDAR sensor support.

So the addition of a magnetic wireless charging ring may not seem like a standout feature of the IPhone 12. However, Apple is very good at these seemingly trivial, yet quality-of-life features that actually make the phone a pleasure to use.

There is still no clear indication of when the IPhone 12 will be released. It could be announced this month and released in October. Alternatively, Apple could announce and release it this month.
