Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus Leak reveals big upgrade to fight iPhone12

With Samsung's Galaxy Note 20 series now in stores, all eyes are on the company's next big flagship model, the Galaxy S21. Past releases suggest that a new Galaxy S model would typically be announced in February or March, but new leaks of key components suggest that the company is on schedule.

As discovered by MyFixGuide, two new batteries have received 3C certification, and these cells seem destined for the Samsung Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Plus.

At first glance, the list says nothing about Samsung, let alone the S21, but the model number hides a big clue. The Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus have the rumored model numbers G991 and G996, both of which are included in the battery codes EB-BG996ABY and EB-BG991ABY, respectively.

What does the certification tell us: the S21 battery is listed at 3,880mAh and the S21 Plus at 4,660mAh. Interestingly, the S21 Plus has 160mAh more than the S20 Plus, while the S21 has 120mAh less than the S20.

In a web surfing battery test, the Galaxy S20 Plus' 4,500mAh battery lasted 10 hours and 31 minutes at 120Hz screen and 8:55 minutes at 60Hz. iPhone 11 Pro Max lasted 11 minutes and 54 seconds. So the increased capacity should help the Galaxy S21 Plus.

As for the regular Galaxy S21, it is surprising that it will reportedly have a smaller battery, which indicates that the dimensions may be different. Perhaps the S21 will be thinner, or have a smaller display, or both? iPhone 12 is said to start with a 5.4-inch model, so perhaps Samsung is preparing a more direct competitor. The current Galaxy S20 screen is 6.2 inches.

Importantly, all of the above batteries outperform the cells rumored to be in the upcoming iPhone 12 family, from a projected 2,227mAh in the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 to 3,687mAh in the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max This means.

It is worth noting, however, that iPhones have always had smaller batteries than their Android counterparts. Furthermore, the Apple A14 Bionic chip, which will be used in the upcoming iPhone 12 series, is manufactured in a 5nm process, which could result in a 30% increase in efficiency.

In other words, despite the S21 Plus' clear numerical advantage, it is still anyone's game when it comes to battery life.

Other potential Galaxy S21 upgrades include a true full-screen design with the camera hidden under the display, a huge 150MP camera (at least on one model), a new 5nm to compete with the iPhone 12's A14 Bionic Snapdragon 875 processor, and more.
