It has long been known that Samsung is planning a Galaxy S20 Fan Edition, but recent reports suggest that a Lite version could join it.

The answer is not certain, but German tech site WinFuture.de has one answer to the puzzle. The site has an official photo gallery showing the full specs of the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition and its more than six color variations.

One might think that the "Fan Edition" refers to an all-out improvement to give S20 fans a reason to upgrade, but in fact there are small but significant downgrades across the board, making it closer to the S10 Lite than you might expect.

That said, nothing prevents the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition from being a very powerful device, and if that means a lower price, we're all for it. 8GB of RAM on the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor as the S20 (12GB on the S20 GB), so it certainly won't lose performance, and the battery is up 500 mAh to 4,500 mAh.

It is worth noting, however, that the above specs are for the 5G version; according to WinFuture, Samsung is also preparing a 4G model. However, given that it is equipped with the inferior Exynos 990 chip, you may want the 5G model, even if it doesn't immediately produce the data speeds that would justify it. Of course, this may only be a European thing, as Samsung tends not to use its own Exynos chips in the US.

There are other cost-cutting measures, most of which are directed at the screen. For starters, the phone is flatter and loses the curved edges seen on the S20 family. Second, the resolution is lower, limiting the S20 Fan Edition to 2,400 x 1,080 instead of 2K. Given that the panel is 6.5 inches (up 0.3 inches from the original S20), this translates to about 407 pixels per inch, considerably lower than the S20's 563ppi. Finally, Samsung is reportedly moving to Gorilla Glass 3, which means a slight drop in scratch resistance.

But it's not all bad news. The screen will still be AMOLED and will retain the S20's most coveted feature, a 120 Hz refresh rate; in addition to the 12-megapixel, f/1.8 main camera, there will be a 12-megapixel ultrawide snap camera and an 8-megapixel 3x zoom lens.

The back has been downgraded from glass to "glassy," but is considerably more colorful than the original S20, which only came in gray, blue, and pink; according to a WinFuture leak, the phone will come in at least six vibrant colors They appear to be available, and can be seen dotted throughout this image.

Of course, some of these could be reserved exclusively for the 4G or 5G versions, but it still feels less serious and more playful than the phone it is based on.

Overall, the S20 Fan Edition is reduced, but not significantly so. The price is an area not mentioned in the S20 Fan Edition leaks, but if Samsung gets it right, the S20 Fan Edition, coming later this month or early October, could be a very attractive buy. Attention.
