Despite delays in other Apple announcements, iOS 14 will be available to iPhone users this month.

This is according to Bloomberg (via TechRadar), whose sources say that while the iPhone 12 will arrive later than usual this year, iOS 14 will have a stable launch in September as planned.

Production of the iPhone 12 was put on hold at some point in testing and production due to problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic. However, iOS 14 was released on schedule, albeit virtually, at WWDC 2020 in June. iOS 14 is usually released around the same time as the new generation of iPhones, but Apple may see no reason to delay iOS 14 until October, when the iPhone 12 is rumored to be released. We are not sure.

We are eager to see how iOS 14 works outside of the beta version. Widgets for a more informative home screen, App Clips to accomplish certain app tasks more quickly, and a new App Library system that intelligently categorizes apps based on their functionality and usage are expected to be some of the biggest iOS updates yet. It is expected to be the largest of its kind.

iOS 14 is available for iPhone 6s and later. If you're using an iPhone 6, this is not so good news, but this is an unusually generous move by Apple, since it usually locks out the oldest models running the previous operating system each year. This time around, all iPhones capable of running iOS 13 will be able to upgrade to iOS 14.

Bloomberg's sources did not give a specific date for when iOS 14 will arrive on users' iPhones. But given that iOS 13 landed on September 19 last year, expect the big day to arrive in the next two weeks or so.
