Mandalorian Season 2 release date revealed — and it's almost here

The Mandalorian Season 2 release date has finally been revealed, and while we knew that Baby Yoda and his bounty hunter dad would be back in October for more space and planet-hopping adventures, you can now mark your calendars.

Disney Plus announced that the release date for "The Mandalorian" Season 2 is October 30. This news was first posted on Twitter.

Filming on "The Mandalorian" Season 2 ended on March 8, just days before the coronavirus pandemic shut down film and television production. Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, told "The Wrap," "In literally five days, the country collapsed. We were very fortunate."

Thanks to the efforts of Lucasfilm's IT department, the show was able to move straight into post-production editing and visual effects.

"The Mandalorian" was a huge hit and led to the successful launch of Disney Plus. The "Star Wars" series received a surprise Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama.

In Season 2, the adventures of the Mandalorians (aka Din Jarin) and The Child (known as Baby Yoda to fans) continue. In the finale, the two took off in search of The Child's home world while narrowly escaping the clutches of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). But Mando and Baby Yoda are not yet safe, as the villain has survived a TIE Fighter wreck and is wielding a deadly dark saber.

Not much is known about the story of "The Mandalorian" Season 2, but there is some information about the cast. Carl Weathers and Gina Carano return as bounty hunter guild leader Gref Carga and former shock trooper Kara Dune, respectively.

Rosario Dawson will reportedly join the cast as Ahsoka Tano, a Jedi who was formerly Anakin Skywalker's padawan. Ahsoka previously appeared as an animated character in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels.

Star Wars veteran Temuera Morrison (who played Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones) will reportedly appear in season 2 as Boba Fett. Michael Biehn ("Terminator"), Katee Sackhoff ("Battlestar Galactica"), and Timothy Olyphant ("Justified") are also rumored to appear.

Disney Plus has not confirmed a release schedule for "The Mandalorian" Season 2, but it will likely air one episode per week, as in the first season.

In addition to "The Mandalorian," Disney Plus also has the animated "Bad Batch," a spin-off of "Cassian Andor," the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series, and a possible "Lando Calrissian" with Donald Glover, among other "Star Wars" Several series are in production.
