Forget Pixel4a5G - Samsung's New Phone Can Offer 5G

If you're looking for a cheap 5G phone, Samsung seems to have you covered with the new Galaxy A42 5G, which is likely to rival the Google Pixel 4a 5G and OnePlus Nord.

Samsung has not officially revealed the price of the Galaxy A42 5G, but it is set to sit below Samsung's current cheapest 5G smartphone, the $399 Galaxy A51. Therefore, we can expect the Galaxy A42 5G to be below that.

However, OnePlus Nord has released an affordable, well-specified, and critically acclaimed 5G smartphone, and the upcoming Pixel 4a 5G is about to do the same, so the Galaxy A42 5G should show its A-game in the affordable smartphone space It will have to. [The Galaxy A42 5G has a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display and uses a teardrop selfie camera cutout to create a larger display than the OnePlus Nord's 6.44-inch display. However, it is not known if the Galaxy A42 5G will have a high refresh rate display.

Like the OnePlus Nord, the Galaxy A42 5G will feature a quad rear camera array, but we do not yet know the camera configuration. We expect a high megapixel main camera supported by telephoto and ultra-wide angle cameras.

The OnePlus Nord offers an impressive array of cameras, but did not blow us away with its performance. Therefore, the Galaxy A42 5G has a chance to surpass the OnePlus Nord.

The display size of the Pixel 4a 5G is unknown, but it is expected to be the same or slightly larger than the Pixel 4a. However, the Pixel 4a 5G will likely use the same rear camera as its non-5G sibling.

With four rear cameras, the Galaxy A42 5G beats the Pixel in terms of hardware. However, Google's image processing on the software side is so impressive that Samsung's phone should also bring powerful computational photography.

This is about all we know about the Galaxy A42 5G, as Samsung has not been very generous with information.

The phone was revealed at the Life Unstoppable virtual event, which gave an overview of upcoming Samsung devices and revealed the Galaxy Tab A7 as well. Its new tablet is effectively a budget take on the Galaxy Tab S7, though Samsung again refused to mention any price. However, it did state that the tablet will feature a 10.4-inch display and will be dedicated to media consumption.

No release date was mentioned for the Galaxy A42 5G or Galaxy Tab A7, but they are expected to be available this fall, as early next year will be Samsung's Galaxy S21 territory.
