Owners of Samsung's Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and those who have purchased the Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7 Plus have reported problems with screen tint.

As reported in r/samsung and r/galaxytab subreddits (via Notebookcheck), the 120Hz displays on these new Samsung devices have an unusual green tint at low brightness levels. According to users trying to troubleshoot this issue, changing the refresh rate setting has little effect.

The issue appears to affect only Note 20 Ultra models with the Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset; models using the Exynos 990 chip have yet to see this issue, although the Galaxy S20 Ultra Exynos version this issue when it debuted earlier this year.

We contacted Samsung about this display issue, but were unable to obtain comment at this time.

The OnePlus 8 Pro, like the OnePlus Nord, also faced this tint issue earlier this year. iPhone 11 Pro also reportedly suffered from this undesirable tint in June.

According to a statement from OnePlus commenting on the Nord issue, the green tint at low brightness is a quirk unique to OLED displays. However, it does not explain why the Galaxy Tab S7, which has an LCD panel, is affected.

The root of the problem probably lies with Samsung Display. Samsung Display sells displays to other handset manufacturers, including OnePlus and Apple. Since the devices' chipsets, maximum refresh rates, and basic display technology are all different, this seems to be the only common link between the phones known to have this problem.

Fortunately, the problems faced by OnePlus, Apple, and Samsung's S20 Ultra were solved by software patches. Otherwise, the only answer may be a destructive and expensive device recall.
