Sony will start pre-ordering PS5, but there is a big catch

Sony has begun taking pre-orders for the PS5. The company has launched a new pre-order page where people can sign up to be among the first to reserve the highly anticipated next-generation gaming console. And the actual orders available may be very selective.

Signing up through this page does not guarantee a PS5, but it does ensure that you will be notified by e-mail when reservations are open. And given the number of gamers eagerly awaiting Sony's new console, it's a good idea to register.

Fortunately, registration is very easy. Simply visit Sony's PS5 Direct preorder page and enter your PlayStation Network ID. When the pre-order opens, you will receive a notification to the email address registered in your PSN account.

The PS5 pre-order page emphasizes that Sony's console is available in "limited quantities" and that there is no need to hesitate when you have the chance to pre-order.

"Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis, so once you receive your invitation via email, we encourage you to follow the instructions and act quickly," the website states.

Sony also states in its FAQ that those selected will be chosen "based on previous interest and PlayStation activity."

Winners will be limited to one PS5 or PS5 Digital console, two DualSense controllers, two DualSense charging stations, two Media remotes, and two HD cameras.

The launch of this page suggests that pre-orders for the PS5, as well as the official price and release date, are imminent. Recent rumors have leaked that pre-orders could begin as early as September 9, and that Sony's console could be priced around $400 to $500. We should have more details on the PS5's final price and release date in the coming days, so stay tuned for more information.
