Bill and Ted Face the Music: New Release Date, Trailer, Cast

Bill and Ted Face the Music will be released this week on PVOD and in theaters.

Bill and Ted Face the Music is the third installment in the franchise, following Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) and Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey (1991). Bill and Ted 3 continues the amazing adventures of beloved time travelers William "Bill" S. Preston (Alex Winter) and Theodore S. (Alex Winter) and Theodore "Ted" Logan (Keanu Reeves).

The first film depicts a group of nouveau high school students who use a time machine with the help of Rufus (the late George Carlin) in the future to pass a history class presentation. If they fail, their band of "Wyld Stallyns" will disintegrate and change the course of humanity. In the sequel, they are pursued by an evil robot duplicate and face the Grim Reaper (William Sadler) while trying to make it to the battle of the bands.

In "Bill & Ted Face the Music," Reeves and Winter reappear older, only slightly wiser. But they are fathers, and very good ones at that.

Here's everything you need to know about Bill & Ted Face the Music.

"Bill & Ted Face the Music" will be released on August 28, 2020 (seven days earlier than planned) in premium video-on-demand and in theaters now. Lead actor Alex Winter announced the news while releasing a new behind-the-scenes video for the film.

PVOD rentals will likely cost around $19.99 and will be available on most major digital marketplaces, including Amazon, iTunes, and Vudu.

Bill & Ted Face the Music was originally scheduled to be released on August 21. However, due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, many movie theaters remain closed. Some drive-ins and smaller movie theaters remain open.

A third film had been in the works since 2010, when Reeves announced that he was writing a script; a year later, Winter confirmed that it had been completed; in 2012, Dean Parriott was set to direct. But in the years that followed, Bill & Ted 3 stalled, but both stars kept saying it would still happen; at the 2017 New York Comic Convention, Reeves announced the official title, Bill & Ted Face the Music. Filming took place in the summer of 2019.

A new "Bill & Ted Face the Music" trailer was released along with a new release date and development.

In this trailer, the main characters are 25 years older, with families and teenage daughters. After all these years, they still haven't written the song that is supposed to unite and save the world. So they come up with a plan, this time to go to the future and steal the song from their future selves. Isn't that the lazy man's credo: why do the work when someone else has already done it for you?

The first trailer for Bill & Ted 3 arrived on June 9, or 6/9.

The two stars return together: Keanu Reeves will play Theodore "Ted" Logan and Alex Winter will play William "Bill" S. Preston.

Also returning from "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey" is William Sadler as the Grim Reaper.

Joining the cast of Bill and Ted 3 are two young actresses playing the duo's daughters: Brigette Landy-Payne as Billie "Little Bill" Logan and Samara Weaving as Theodora/Thea "Little Ted" Preston.

The roles of Bill and Ted's wives were recast. Jayma Mays is Princess Joanna Preston, Bill's wife, and Erin Hayes is Princess Elizabeth Logan, Ted's wife.

There are several notable cameo appearances, including Beck Bennett as Ted's brother Deacon Logan, Holland Taylor as the Great Leader, the most powerful person in the universe, and Kristen Schaal as Kelly, a messenger from the future who issues warnings.

The official synopsis for Bill & Ted Face the Music is as follows:

"Undeterred by the monotony of middle age, William "Bill" S. Preston, Esq. and Theodore "Ted" Logan are warned by a visitor from the future of the need to write a song that will save all life on Earth and the entire universe in 78 minutes or less. the two are joined in their mission by family, old friends, famous musicians, and each other.

In 2017, Reeves summarized the plot of Bill & Ted during a guest appearance on The Graham Norton Show. He said, "Basically, they're supposed to write a song to save the world, and they haven't done that. Under the pressure of having to save the world, their marriage is falling apart and their kids are angry. So they have to save the universe.
