Apple Watch 6 leak reveals key features have become axed

The Apple Watch 6, expected to launch this fall, may not include the rumored feature of blood pressure tracking.

While there has been no confirmation of a blood pressure detection feature for the Apple Watch, one patent reveals that the company is working on its own version of the eye-catching tool for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3.

However, according to one tipster source, we should not hold our breath. According to Twitter user Komiya, blood pressure tracking will not be ready for the Apple Watch 6.

Komiya claims that the Apple Watch's blood pressure detection is being prepared but is not accurate at this time.

We take this informant's leak with a grain of salt, but it does sound like a reasonable situation. Blood pressure monitoring is a fickle skill to have on a smartwatch. As we saw with Samsung's Galaxy Watch Active 2, accurate blood pressure monitoring requires frequent calibration.

And there is the need for FDA approval. Samsung's blood pressure monitor is only approved in South Korea. Apple must wait until FDA approval is granted to actually release a blood pressure tracker for the Apple Watch.

In any case, we will soon know the facts: the Apple Watch 6 is expected to debut as early as next month with some incremental upgrades. It will also feature watchOS 7, Apple's latest smartwatch software with sleep tracking, hand-washing detection, and new mobility features.
