Suicide Squad cast, trailer, release date and everything we know

"Suicide Squad" is putting that "Suicide Squad" front and center for a very specific reason - to make sure we never forget the horrific 2016 film "Suicide Squad."

And to accomplish that, DC Entertainment has tapped one of the best minds in comic book movies today: James Gunn. Yes, in case you forgot, when Disney ousted Gunn from "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," DC brought him into the film industry.

And thankfully, we finally got a big taste of "Suicide Squad" at the DC FanDome event. The film is a stylized look at the rogues that make up this new Suicide Squad (and the actors who play them), as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the movie "Suicide Squad."

Here is everything we know about "Suicide Squad," including the cast and release date.

Leading the cast, of course, are Margot Robbie and Viola Davis, who return as Harley Quinn and Amanda Waller, respectively. Joel Kinnaman also returns as Rick Flagg.

Idris Elba is super excited to play Blood Sport in the comic book movie. The cast also includes Nathan Fillion, Michael Rooker, Peter Capaldi, and Steve Agee. You can see some of the cast in this preview video:

Then the cast of "Suicide Squad" gets all sorts of crazy: 16-time WWE World Champion John Cena plays Peacemaker, who is, in Cena's words, "a disgusting Captain America." And what fresh laughs will Pete Davidson bring to the role of Blackguard?

Plus, we can look forward to Taika Waititi in "Suicide Squad."

"Suicide Squad" is scheduled to be released on August 6, 2021.

However, as is the case with most comic book films (such as "Wonder Woman 1984"), one cannot bet on the release date. Not until the COVID-19 restrictions on theater closings that currently exist are over (although some theaters are beginning to reopen).

While the cast of Suicide Squad is enough to get some of us excited, the first teaser trailer of some sort for the film, dubbed the "DC FanDome Exclusive Sneak peek," is one that the TG staff is totally on board with.

In the clip below, you can see the excitement on James Gunn's face as he talks about making the film in his own inimitable way. Producer Peter Safran calls it a blend of Gunn's signature characters and comedy with "the gritty war movies of the 1970s."

It's also where you'll see Mr. Cena in his truly ridiculous costumes.
