Samsung Galaxy Z Times 2 is getting this killer Galaxy Note 20 feature

Corning's new Gorilla Glass Victus debuted on the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra this month. And now it appears that the glass cover will be bundled with the Galaxy Z Fold 2, which will arrive next month.

Sammobile reports that the Galaxy Z Fold, a sequel to the original Galaxy Fold, will feature Gorilla Glass Victus on the outer display. Samsung previewed the Galaxy Z Fold 2 at this month's Galaxy Unpacked event, but many details about the new phone will not be announced until September 1, and the type of Gorilla Glass used in the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is just one of those details.

Gorilla Glass Victus is the latest version of Corning's protective glass material used in many smartphones; Victus is more scratch-resistant than previous versions of Gorilla Glass and has withstood a two-meter drop in laboratory tests

Galaxy Glass is a newer version of Corning Inc.

Don't expect Gorilla Glass Victus to be used for the Galaxy Z Fold 2's internal screen. That would hinder the screen's ability to bend. (Instead, Samsung has already confirmed that it will use a layer of ultra-thin glass for the internal display, just like the Galaxy Z Flip.) Instead, Samsung will reportedly use Gorilla Glass Victus to cover the outer 6.2-inch screen.

It is understandable why Samsung is eager to enhance the durability of the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Last year's Galaxy Fold ran into problems shortly before launch that suggested its distinctive display was prone to breakage. Samsung moved to correct some of these design flaws in the first Fold, but the reputation of the device as a breakage-prone device has taken hold.

When previewing the Galaxy Z Fold 2 this month, Samsung spent a lot of time on additional design changes to improve the phone's durability. Given that focus, it is likely that Corning's Gorilla Glass Victus will be included in the Galaxy Z Fold 2 when it launches next month.

The Z Fold 2 has increased the size of both the internal and external displays from Samsung's original foldable. It is also expected to have a new camera, which is believed to be the same lens used in the Galaxy S20 Plus, and 5G connectivity. Samsung has not said much about the Galaxy Z Fold 2's specs or whether it will be priced the same as the $1,980 Fold.
