New Google Android TV Player Confirmed - Meet the New Chromecast

The Google Chromecast 4 Sabrina, which appears to be the next-generation Chromecast Ultra, has been filed for approval with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Google submitted to the FCC devices with model numbers GZRNL and G9N9N; 9to5Google reports that these appear to be next-generation Chromecast Ultra devices code-named Sabrina, "Interactive Media Streaming Device" and submitted for the "Wireless Device." [and from other rumors we've seen in recent months, it appears that Sabrina will be Google's first in-house Android TV device since the Nexus Player.

The Chromecast 4 Sabrina will introduce a new oval design and a much cleaner looking remote control to the Chromecast dongle, but Android TV will be the secret sauce for this device. Unlike current Chromecast devices, which are controlled by the phone, the new Android TV dongle will have its own remote control and UI. This would make the Sabrina device more user-friendly.

The Chromecast 4, or what could be the Chromecast Ultra 2, is also set to output 60 frames per second at 4K, which could work well with Google Stadia streaming. HDR and Dolby Vision will also be supported.

The filing with the FCC suggests that an official Sabrina announcement is imminent. And with the Pixel 5 just around the corner, it would not be surprising to see a new Chromecast Ultra sometime in the fall, probably around October.
