We know that Nvidia's new RTX 3000 series cards are on the way. However, prospective buyers of the RTX 3090 with a microATX case may want to look away now.

Twitter user @GarnetSunset has released an image purportedly of the upcoming RTX 3090, along with an RTX 2080 for scale. If this is even half accurate, we will need a larger case.

If the $2,000 price tag pointed out in this tweet gave you or your bank balance a heart attack, you'll be happy to hear that @GarnetSunset offered a correction a few minutes later. The card, which he describes as "this generation's Titan," will only pay you $1,400.

While @GarnetSunset did not provide measurements, other users did a little detective work and calculated that assuming a 120mm fan, the card should be about 300mm vs. 267mm for the RTX 2080 GPU.

But not only is it longer, it is also wider; the RTX 3090 is a triple-slot card and should have rather chunky looking fans and heatsinks on both sides. The backplate appears to have something written on it in digital editing, probably a brand name or something to make it harder to track down the source of the leak.

Speaking of sources, can we trust this photo? Well, @GarnetSunset doesn't hide the fact that the image is via 4chan, which has a rather complicated track record, and the appearance of the word "sh*tposting" in his bio is not overly encouraging.

However, people are keen to point out that the PCI-e insert size is different on the two cards, which has a fairly simple explanation. Or, as @GarnetSunset puts it more expressively:

Others have questioned shadows and light sources. But given what we know about the upcoming RTX 3000 series cards, we'd be quite surprised if they weren't large: the RTX 3090 is going to be a ridiculously powerful card with a massive 20GB of VRAM, and even the 3080 has 10GB.

One thing is for sure, these won't be cheap, and they'll easily beat the $1,000 price tag of the current top-of-the-line GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. We should know all the details on September 1.
