"We were on break!" is the unspoken catchphrase when watching HBO Max's Singletown. The British series follows five couples who take a break from their relationships to experience single life again. But there is (of course) a twist. An awkward rendezvous ensues!

"Singletown" is a 15-episode series that aired on ITV last year. Now, like other British imports such as "Love Island," it is poised to captivate American viewers.

From "The Bachelor" to "Love Is Blind," there is no shortage of TV dating shows. But "Singletown" introduces a big surprise by having an ex-lover (or partner with "complications") watch footage of the date and comment on the dating relationship. And at the end, the couple must decide whether they prefer the single life or want a real breakup.

"It's very different from traditional dating shows," David Williams told TheWrap. 'We advertised it as the ultimate test to your relationship.'
