Chromebook just became a serious Gaming Laptop — here's how

Aside from the ability to run Android games from the Google Play store, Chromebooks are not exactly ideal for those who want to play games on their laptops. However, that will change with the deployment of Nvidia's GeForce Now streaming service to ChromeOS.

GeForce Now is a cloud-based platform that can stream high-end PC games to any screen, including lower-end laptops, MacBooks, Nvidia Shield set-top boxes, and Android phones. And now Chromebook users can also play titles like Fortnite and Destiny 2 from their web browsers. [GeForce Now does not come with games like Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Now. Instead, it gives you access to PC game marketplaces like Steam, UPlay, and the Epic Games Store, where you can purchase your favorite titles (or play games you already own), and do so via the cloud without the need for fancy hardware. You can enjoy high-end PC performance.

GeForce Now has a free tier that lets you play by the hour, and stepping up to the Founders tier, which costs $5 per month, gives you longer sessions, ray-tracing performance, and priority access when you log on. Nvidia is also offering six months of Founders service plus a $24.95 package for a limited time that gets exclusive content for Ubisoft's new online shooter HyperScape.

The GeForce Now lineup currently consists of major titles such as Cuphead, Warframe, and The Division 2, with notable titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 expected to be available at launch this fall.

The timing of this announcement seems ideal, as many students will likely be grabbing the best Chromebooks for kids to prepare for a semester of distance learning. What better way to take a break from studying than to overwhelm those idiots with a game of Fortnite.
