Lenovo is upgrading its Yoga laptop lineup to compete with Dell's 2-in-1 laptops and ultra-portable notebooks with the latest Ryzen mobile chips and upcoming Intel Tiger Lake CPUs.

The refreshed laptop and 2-in-1 lineup, available in 14- and 15-inch versions, is spearheaded by the Yoga 7i, which effectively replaces the Yoga C740. Prices start at $849.99 and $799, respectively, and include a new Tiger Lake chip, up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, and a redesigned 2-in-1 with 20% less display bezel.

It also features Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, a larger 70WHr battery, a webcam positioned slightly above the screen bezel, and a Nega-notch that provides a lip to make it easier to open the lid with one hand. [With these specs, the Yoga 7i could be considered a competitor to the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1, which uses Intel's Ice Lake processor and will likely be refreshed with Tiger Lake chips. However, Dell's machines start at $999, so the Yoga 7i has a price advantage.

Both Yoga 7i models come in slate gray and dark moss color options and will be available in November; the €999 13-inch Yoga Slim 7i and €899 14-inch Yoga Slim 7i Pro are two new ultra-portable notebooks. They will be powered by the upcoming Intel Tiger Lake chip with integrated Xe graphics, which is expected to offer a significant improvement in GPU performance over Ice Lake laptop chips.

For those who want a bit more graphics performance, the 14-inch version has the option of a GeForce MX GPU, although Lenovo did not say which model. This suggests that a new MX GPU may be on the way.

RAM and storage for the 13- and 14-inch models are capped at 16 and 32 GB, respectively, and 1 TB of M.2 SSD storage.

Other features such as Wi-Fi 6, a 2.9K wide-angle display with 400-nit brightness, 90 Hz refresh rate, and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity make up the laptop's spec sheet.

These machines will rival the Dell XPS 13 2020, our current top laptop of choice, which will also be upgraded to Intel's Tiger Lake CPU. However, the XPS 13's current starting price of about $1,000 makes it a premium machine at a premium price. Therefore, the Yoga Slim 7i laptop could undercut the XPS 13 and, given its dedicated GPU options, could even overpower the XPS 13.

Both Yoga Slim 7i models will be available in Europe in early November.

Next up is the Yoga 6, the successor to the Yoga C640, a 13.3-inch 2-in-1 starting at $699.99 with a Rzyen 4000 series CPU with integrated GPU, up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage space.

Featuring a striking blue fabric design on the lid and edges, the Yoga 6 is a de facto 2-in-1 machine for those seeking a laptop cum tablet that can be loaded with rich features such as Dolby Atmos speakers without paying a wallet-emptying price. The Yoga 6 will be available in October.

And finally, there is the Yoga 7 Slim Pro. Available in Europe starting at €799, this 14-inch laptop is powered by an 8-core AMD Ryzen 9 4900H processor, has a webcam, and comes with a new dome-design keypad that Lenovo claims makes typing on the machine more comfortable. Available in light silver and slate gray, the Yoga 7 Slim Pro will be available in August. [With these prices and specifications, the Yoga 7 Slim Pro and Yoga 6 offer laptops and 2-in-1 machines that mix Lenovo's strong standards of solid, practical build quality and design with features that do not sacrifice functionality for form.

This refresh and rebranding of the Yoga lineup is not the most groundbreaking, but it ensures that Lenovo machines released in the fall will feature the latest processors. And the price of the entire range appears to be quite competitive, compared to more expensive machines like the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1, so if you're after a new laptop or hybrid device it may well be worth considering.
