New Pixel 5 leaks have revealed further evidence that Google's next flagship smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 765G chipset.

A listing on the AI-Benchmark website for a device dubbed the "Google Pixel 5" showed off the device with the aforementioned Snapdragon chip, 8GB of RAM, and Android 11. As such, the listing lends further credence to previous rumors that the Pixel 5 will use a mid-tier chip rather than a flagship chip such as the Snapdragon 865 Plus found in Samsung's Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

AI benchmarks are tools used to measure how well a mobile chip can handle machine learning-based tasks such as image classification and image enhancement. As such, the benchmarks on this list are not comparable to other cell phone benchmarks. However, the Pixel 5 appears around the middle of the benchmark list, suggesting that it has mid-range performance befitting a mid-range chip.

The Snapdragon 765G is found in the OnePlus Nord, a very impressive budget to mid-range smartphone. The device scored 602 points in the single-core Geekbench 5 test and 1,948 points in the multi-core benchmark, which is a solid result, although it loses to the budget iPhone SE 2020 and its A13 Bionic chip.

With this in mind, the Pixel 5 should perform roughly on par with the Nord. However, given that the Pixel 5 will be a pure Android phone, there are many optimizations Google could make for the Pixel 5.

In addition, the boost from 6GB of RAM in the Pixel 4 to 8GB of RAM in the Pixel 5 should promise better performance as users bounce between apps and use more-intensive software such as video editors and games. The Snapdragon 765G also provides 5G connectivity, so the Pixel 5 should be somewhat future-proof with respect to cellular broadband.

The Pixel 5 is rumored to be priced at $699, which should be cheaper than many flagship Android phones.

The Pixel 5 is expected to feature a 6.67-inch display with 120 Hz or 90 Hz refresh rates and a dual or triple rear camera array enhanced by Google's improved computational photography capabilities. Given that Google will likely use a mid-range chip, it is unlikely that the Pixel 5 will have special features like the Soli radar chip that the Pixel 4 had. However, the Pixel 5 is scheduled to arrive in October, so it won't be too long before we know for sure.
