Goodbye Twitch Prime, hello Prime Gaming, Amazon has officially rebranded the gaming service that comes with Amazon Prime, but little else has changed.

For those of you who don't know, Twitch Prime encompasses a series of gaming-related benefits available to anyone with an Amazon Prime subscription. These benefits include free monthly PC games, exclusive in-game content, and a free monthly Twitch subscription available to support your favorite streamers. These benefits will not go away, they will simply go under the Prime Gaming banner.

So what else has changed? Not much. The press release claims that the more than 150 million Prime members worldwide "can further enhance the value of their Prime membership with the best games," but it is unclear whether Amazon will add more perks or increase the amount of new games each month.

Also, the Prime Gaming site has been redesigned to make it easier to claim the games and in-game loot that come with membership.

This rebranding may simply be to bring Twitch Prime in line with the naming conventions of Amazon's other major services such as Prime Video and Prime Music. However, some, including Paul Tassi of Forbes, have speculated that this could be a sign that Amazon is looking to grow its gaming service further, possibly with its own Stadia-like streaming service, code-named Project Tempo He speculates that. [Amazon is also in the game development business, releasing an online shooter named Crucible earlier this year and a massively multiplayer online game called New World in 2021. However, Crucible was launched with numerous problems and was put back into beta after its release.

Whatever Amazon's long-term intentions, Amazon Prime members and Twitch streamers can rest assured that Prime Gaming does not signal a major change in the mechanics. At least not at this time.
