With Pixel4 deprecated, it looks like Google Pixel5 is imminent

Google has discontinued the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, bringing the launch of the Google Pixel 5 one step closer.

9to5Google discovered that Google's 2019 flagship smartphone series is no longer available for purchase from the Google Store. This was later confirmed when Google released an official statement.

The statement reads: "The Google Store has sold out of Pixel 4|4XL inventory and is no longer selling them. For those still interested in purchasing the Pixel 4|4XL, the product is available from several partners while supplies last." The statement was.

The statement also reassured existing Pixel 4 users that they will continue to receive software updates. The statement continued, "Like all Pixel devices, the Pixel 4 will continue to receive software and security updates for at least three years after it is first sold in the U.S. Google Store."

The Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are no longer available on Verizon or Google Fi, but the Just Black 128GB storage version is available unlocked. A recheck of the Google Store in the UK showed only the Just Black 64GB version of the Pixel 4 available; the Pixel 4 XL is still available in both colors and both storage capacities offered by Google.

We learned about a month ago that Google had discontinued the Pixel 3a, and sure enough, the Pixel 4a debuted this week. As Google noted in a statement at the time, the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are still available, but will only be available from remaining inventory at third-party retailers.

According to what appears to be a coincidental leak from Google's French blog post announcing the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, the company claims that these two models will be available starting October 8. So, with about two months left, it makes sense that Google would begin preparing for the new arrivals by organizing the digital shelves of its website.

The Pixel 4a has proven to be an excellent mid-range Android phone, so hopefully the addition of 5G and increased size will improve the situation; the Pixel 5 is also rumored to have 5G connectivity, three different sensors on the back, and Google's best camera hardware will likely be included.
