How to watch American Pickles on Hbo Max: Release Date, Review, and more

Seth Rogen fans can do a double take by watching "An American Pickle" on HBO Max, which is streaming now; the film, which debuted on August 6, features Rogen in a dual role, and has already received critical acclaim for his performance.

"American Pickle" follows Hershel Greenbaum, a struggling Ashkenazi laborer who immigrated to the United States from the Citétre in 1920. He dreams of building a better life for himself and his family. While working in a factory, he falls into a vat of pickles, which is preserved for 100 years.

Hershel emerges in modern-day Brooklyn and searches for his family, never a day older. However, he is astonished to meet Ben Greenbaum, the great-grandson of his only surviving relative. Ben Greenbaum is a mild-mannered computer programmer, a man Herschel finds difficult to understand.

"American Pickle" also stars Maya Erskine of "PEN15," Sarah Snook of "Succession," and Jorma Taccone of "Lonely Island." The film was originally slated for theatrical release by Sony, but was sold to Warner Bros. who scheduled the film for their new streaming service.

Just because HBO Max isn't available everywhere doesn't mean you have to miss "An American Pickle" when you're away from home. It's very easy to watch it along with the rest of the Internet. With the right VPN (Virtual Private Network), you can stream the show wherever you are.

We evaluated many options, but the best VPN is ExpressVPN. It meets the VPN needs of many users and offers excellent compatibility with most devices and great connection speeds. It is also reasonably priced at $12.95/month. (The cost drops even further if you sign up for a long-term contract of 6 months or a year.)

You can watch "An American Pickle," which became available earlier today (August 6), on HBO Max right now. Of course, you need a device that supports HBO Max, which may be annoying since the app is not available on Roku or Fire TV.

HBO Max is compatible with Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, Android, Android TV, Chromecast, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and, since 2016, Samsung TV.

HBO Max is not available in Canada, but An American Pickle is currently streaming on Crave.

An American Pickle will be released theatrically in the UK and Australia, so Brits and Aussies can head to their local screens.

Americans abroad can check out VPN services such as ExpressVPN to give it a try.

Reviews of "An American Pickle" have been mixed, but most critics have given favorable reviews to lead actor Seth Rogen's one-man double role. The following is a summary of reviews of An American Pickle:

The New York Times: An American Pickle is made quickly and nimbly, not weighing itself down with schmaltz; it is too flimsy to sustain its premise in its short 90-minute running time; it is too short to be a good movie; and it is too short to be a good movie, At times it feels more like a stretched sketch than a fully developed feature film.

Rolling Stone Magazine "Abrupt shifts in tone and dry dead spots give the film shape and challenge your attention instead of satisfying it.

Vulture "Having to buy a ticket for An American Pickle will almost certainly leave you feeling shortchanged as a viewing experience. But the low barrier to entry of streaming allows its modest pleasures to outweigh the small miscalculations, and the fact that it occasionally plays out like a drawn-out sketch makes it all the more forgivable."

Time: "The good news for you and me, my fellow Victorian orphans, is that An American Pickle is a real movie and a lot of fun. Sometimes a logically indefensible premise is the only thing that makes life seem logical."
