Mulan to come to Disney Plus - but ou will have to pay extra

With a new release date for "Mulan" on Disney Plus and a surprisingly high price tag, Disney has opened up a new avenue for selling major motion pictures while theaters are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At today's earnings call, we learned that Disney's new live-action film "Mulan" will be available on Disney Plus on September 4. The film will also be released in theaters the same day.

The idea of adding PPV and movie fees to existing Disney Plus subscriptions may sound surprising or alarming.

This is because the company also owns ESPN Plus, which sells UFC PPVs. These streams cost much more than $30.

According to The Verge, during the earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Chapek said, "We thought it was important to find an alternative way to deliver (Mulan) in a timely manner."

This could be the method of release Disney uses for its other two giant films, Black Widow and The New Mutants, scheduled for release on November 6 and August 28, respectively.

September 4 is the fourth and possibly last release date for Mulan. It was supposed to arrive on the big screen on March 24, but COVID-19 arrived earlier, closing theaters worldwide. Mulan's other release dates, July 24 and August 21, are now seen as a sign of Disney's former optimism that it will get out of this situation sooner.
