Google just released the Pixel 4a, a $349 budget phone that brings many of the camera features found on its flagship phones to a more affordable device. But this is not the only phone Google plans to release this year.

Later this fall, the company will release two new phones, the Google Pixel 5 and the $499 Pixel 4a 5G. The former is the successor to the Pixel 4, while the latter will be a 5G-enabled version of Google's just-released smartphone.

"The Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 will be available in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, and Australia," Google said in the Pixel 4a release." We will share more about these devices and our approach to 5G in the coming months."

Google did not provide any further details about either device, but rumor sources are willing to step in with that information; the Pixel 5 is expected to potentially add an ultra-wide angle lens to the main shooter and telephoto lens currently found on the Pixel 4 . Google's next flagship will be a 5G-enabled device, and Google is rumored to be using the Snapdragon 765G processor as a way to keep costs down for the Pixel 5.

The Pixel 4a 5G may have the same Snapdragon CPU as the Pixel 5, but will likely use the same plastic design as the current Pixel 4a. It is unclear what other upgrades Google has planned. Software updates from Google mention the Pixel 4a, Pixel 5, and Pixel 4a 5G, but do not mention the XL version of Google's flagship.

It may seem an unusual move to announce two more phones at the same time it rolls out a new phone. However, Google's approach to phones has always been a bit unconventional, with handset makers confirming details of previous releases long before they are ready to ship. And since the Pixel 4a was expected to be announced earlier this year, it makes sense for Google to tease the next handset just before its fall release.
