iPhone12Pro Leak reveals Final design - and Camera Surprise

The iPhone 12 may be delayed until October, but the release date is still getting closer and closer. And now, thanks to Twitter leaker Komiya, we get to see a possible final design.

In the photos below, you can see images of both the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max. As you can see, both will retain the notch that has been a feature since the iPhone X and will feature a square camera array featuring six or more circles. Let's take a closer look at their appearance.

In the tweet itself, Komia adds that "all three lenses are slightly larger than the 11 Pro series," which suggests a larger sensor and hopefully better photo quality as a result.

What is interesting about this is that the LiDAR scanner debuted on the iPad Pro is significantly smaller than Apple's tablet. It will be interesting to see if this affects performance or if Apple has found a way to make it smaller without compromising.

LiDAR stands for Light Detection and Ranging; LiDAR scanners emit a laser beam and measure the time it takes for it to return to the sensor, using this information to accurately calculate the distance and depth to the object hit. While this functionality has served industry for many years (e.g., in aircraft, space, and military applications), it has recently begun to be used in the consumer sector as well. For example, it allows robotic vacuum cleaners to understand the layout of a room, or self-driving cars to calculate in near real time what to avoid.

In the case of the iPhone 12 Pro, perhaps the use is related to AR. AR, or "augmented reality," is something Apple CEO Tim Cook is known to be a big fan of. In recent memory, he has stated that it is "the next big thing" and has the ability to "amplify human performance rather than isolate us," and perhaps "permeate your life." With this kind of AR evangelism in mind, it would be odd if Apple wasn't betting big on LiDAR for the iPhone 12 Pro.

Still, there will be plenty to like in the iPhone 12 Pro, even for those who aren't sold on the idea. We expect the brand new Apple A14 Bionic processor to be a reasonably impressive performance boost, and the introduction of 5G compatibility. We had originally heard that a 120Hz screen would be coming, but recent reports indicate that Apple may not include that feature.

As one would expect from an Apple product, pricing will be premium as always. Again, Komiya predicts that the 128GB iPhone 12 Pro will start at $1,049 and the 128GB iPhone 12 Pro Max at $1,149. Of course, cheaper options are also available, with the 5.4-inch 5G iPhone 12 reportedly priced at $699.
