Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Benchmark Leaked - It's great News for iPhone 12

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 is just a few days away from its release date. Unfortunately, this flagship smartphone does not appear to be as fast as the iPhone 12, especially for the international version of the Note 20.

As reported by GSM Arena, Geekbench has posted results of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra with Samsung's own Exynos 990 processor. This is the same chip used in Samsung's Galaxy S20 series. The U.S. version of the Note 20 will be powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 865 Plus processor.

Geekbench results for the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra with the Exynos 990 are not beautiful. Its single-core Geekbench 5 score was 928 and its multi-core score was 2,721. The current iPhone 11 is not even close, with a single-core average of 1,324 and a multi-core average of 3,195.

Very early Geekbench leaks of the iPhone 12, which is supposed to have the even faster A14 Bionic chip, point to a single-core score of 1,658 and a multi-core score of 4,612. This means that the new iPhone could reach a level of its own.

The good news is that the Galaxy Note 20 with the Snapdragon 865 Plus should be significantly faster than the Exynos 990 variant. In the spring, SamMobile reported a Geekbench 5 leak of what was then thought to be the Galaxy Note 20 Plus, which should be called the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. [The Note 20 Ultra scored 985 on the single-core portion of Geekbench and 3,220 on the multi-core test. So it seems that at least the Snapdragon 865 Plus can outperform the iPhone 11 in multi-core performance, but not the iPhone 12.

Of course, there are many ways to measure a phone's performance. We even ran real-world tests, such as transcoding 4K video to 1080p with the Adobe Premiere Rush app; the Galaxy S20 took 1 minute and 16 seconds, compared to 45 seconds for the iPhone 11 Pro Max. It will therefore be interesting to see if the Snapdragon 865 Plus is even faster.

Regardless, users should expect a drop in performance from the Galaxy Note 20 with the Exynos 990 chip; for the Galaxy Note 20, Samsung will announce the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and new smartwatch Galaxy Watch 3 will be revealed at the Unpacked event on August 5, when Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the new Galaxy Watch 3 smartwatch.
