Umbrella Academy Season 1 introduced the Hargreaves family, seven adopted brothers with superpowers. As adults, they had grown apart, but were reunited for the funeral of their father, Sir Reginald. They learned of the looming apocalypse, but they could not stop it. In fact, it was brought on by one of them, Vanya (Ellen Page). She was the most powerful of them all.

To save the world from a world-destroying apocalypse, Number Five (Aidan Gallagher) used his time travel ability to jump the siblings into the past. Unfortunately, as we find out in Umbrella Academy Season 2 Episode 1, the siblings were scattered over a three-year period beginning in Dallas in 1960. Some of them have been stuck in the past for years, moving on with their lives.

When Five finally descends, he finds himself in the midst of a nuclear apocalypse. It was the disruption of the timeline by the group that caused it. Oops. Now the siblings must reunite and find a way to stop the apocalypse from happening. And to stop that apocalypse from happening, they must once again return to the present timeline.
