OnePlus Nord already has a big display problem

The OnePlus Nord is reportedly suffering from a frustrating display tint issue.

The issue was reported by 9to5 Google (via Android Authority), with user stories coming from Reddit and the OnePlus Forums.

The color of the display varies from user to user, with some saying it is green, some yellow, and some purple. What all testimonies have in common, however, is that when the discoloration occurs, it is set to about 25% of the maximum brightness available on the Nord.

The following video by Reddit user leonardoyup demonstrates this effect well.

If this sounds familiar, it may be because the OnePlus 8 Pro faced a similar issue earlier this year, with users (myself included) facing a green-tinted display. This was recently fixed by a software patch, so hopefully the Nord issue can be fixed just as easily.

In our review of the OnePlus Nord, we praised its bright and colorful 6.4-inch OLED display. We did not see the tint issues that others have reported.

OnePlus replied to 9to5Google with a statement on the matter. The company stated that the discoloration is due to the way the OLED display works and that users should not be concerned if this occurs at low brightness.

The full statement reads: "The OnePlus Nord features a high-quality AMOLED screen at 90Hz. This is a feature of all OLED displays and the degree of discoloration will vary depending on other characteristics of the display. This is not a quality issue and does not affect daily use or screen durability, and OnePlus will continue to research cutting-edge display technologies to provide the best user experience possible."

This is not the only hardware issue recently revealed to be affecting the Nord; durability tests conducted by YouTuber JerryRigsEverything found that the Nord's outer shell is not very tough and breaks much more easily than other smartphones It was found to break much more easily than other smartphones.

If these issues make you reconsider the Nord, there are a few alternatives worth considering: the Google Pixel 4a is expected to arrive soon and should have an even lower asking price and better photography capabilities. It's the best budget phone if you don't care about it, and although it has an old-fashioned looking body, it offers all of the latest performance and Apple's excellent apps.

If you decide to get a OnePlus device, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro top our list of best Android phones if you don't mind paying more. However, you might want to wait until October, when the OnePlus 8T series is expected to debut with some pleasant upgrades to the original OnePlus 8 series.
