The OnePlus Nord US version has just leaked - and it will be even cheaper

The successor to the OnePlus Nord may be less powerful than the original, but it may also be less expensive and available in the U.S.

XDA Developers has discovered a reference to OnePlus' latest version of Android 10, OxygenOS 10.5, codenamed " We found a reference to a new device called "Billie". The device uses the Snapdragon 690 processor, Qualcomm's latest lower mid-range chipset with 5G capabilities.

The OnePlus Nord used the Snapdragon 765G chipset, so this next phone is likely to be a step down in power, but expect costs to come down as a result.

Four different model numbers for this device were identified: "BE2025," "BE2026," "BE2028," and "BE2029. These could refer to models with different specifications, or the same version of a device optimized to work on a specific mobile band in different markets around the world.

XDA developers speculate that the model number prefix BE means "Billie," referring to musician Billie Eilish. This is because the Nord model number begins with "AC" and during development used the equally musical code name "Avicii."

Elsewhere in the code, there are references to "Billie2T" and "Billie8T." This may also refer to two different models of the same Snapdragon 690-powered phone.

The latter name, 8T, might remind one of the OnePlus 8T, which is expected to appear around October of this year. However, the 8T is expected to use the Snapdragon 865 chip like the original OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro devices, or its newer version, the Snapdragon 865 Plus. onePlus is expected to use its own flagship device Snapdragon 690 in its flagship device is highly unlikely.

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei recently stated that a Nord-branded phone will be available in the U.S. market later this year. However, he also suggested that this device may not be the same one the company just released. Therefore, it seems plausible that this Snapdragon 690 device will be the Nord phone that OnePlus will offer to its US customers.

The OnePlus Nord turned out to be a great budget phone when we reviewed it, offering many attractive features for under $500. However, recent rumors suggest that the Google Pixel 4a may be coming soon, and will reportedly start at an even cheaper $349. In other words, this may be OnePlus' plan to compete with Google and the $399 iPhone SE.
