Asus ROG Phone3 has a killer hidden feature, but Asus doesn't want you to use it

The Asus ROG Phone 3 was found to have a 160 Hz refresh rate.

XDA Developers (via Engadget) first found a reference to this mode within the ROG Phone 3's configuration app code. They then discovered that the phone's basic 144 Hz refresh rate could be further boosted by using debugging commands.

To enable this hidden mode, the command must be used from the PC app Android Debug Bridge. Once this is done and the phone is rebooted, the 160 Hz option will appear in the refresh rate settings.

The app can then benefit from this display rate in apps where the frame rate is not limited to a particularly low rate. However, as XDA Developers points out, this mode is clearly not as user-optimized as other modes.

In a statement to Engadget, Asus confirmed that this setting exists, but that it is not intended for consumer use. The company's statement reads, "The 160Hz refresh rate is for internal testing purposes only, and Asus does not make this part of the official specifications for the device."

Most Android flagships released this year use 120Hz displays, including the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 20; the ROG Phone's 144Hz refresh rate is a significant improvement over its huge 6,000mAh battery and up to 16 GB of RAM, as well as its front already exceeds it; the Note 20 Ultra has a 4,500mAh battery and 12GB of RAM.

Like the Note 20, the ROG Phone 3 uses a 5G-enabled Snapdragon 865 Plus chip. However, the Note 20 has a better camera, and the Ultra model has a 108MP sensor and a 5x optical zoom camera.

If you are convinced that the ROG Phone 3 is the phone for you, you will have to wait for it. It will be available in Europe at the end of July, but will not arrive in the US until September.
