We have a pretty good idea at this point what the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 will look and perform like, but one of the big unknowns is the S Pen, which is supposed to be more responsive than ever and feel like a pen on paper, but what new tricks Is there any new trick to it?

Well, according to a new video from YouTuber Jimmy is Promo, the answer is yes. The leaker seems to have gotten his hands on a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and gives us a quick tour of the S Pen menu.

The main addition is the ability to use the S Pen as a pointer by holding down the button and waving the stylus. Just as you would use a mouse pointer on a desktop PC, you can navigate the screen from a short distance away while pressing the button to manipulate items. Scrolling the page is done by moving the S Pen up and down while pressing the buttons. Holding down the

button twice switches to "spotlight" mode, where the entire page darkens and the pointer becomes a large circle of light to highlight important parts of the page you are on. You also have the option to choose the tracking speed, icon size, and color from a choice of eight colors.

How useful is this? Well, not that useful in most cases; the Note 20 Ultra's screen is large, but not that large. Frankly, if you are close enough to see what is going on, you can touch the screen yourself just like any other smartphone.

The feature comes into its own when combined with the previously leaked Samsung DeX upgrade (the somewhat awkwardly named "Desktop Experience"). This feature will reportedly be wireless, meaning it will be able to output the screen to a nearby TV or monitor.

At that point, the ability to use the S Pen as a pointer will be a game changer. In particular, using the spotlight mode will make presentations at meetings much easier. Even if it sounds a little difficult to learn how to operate, as it is not a feature that you will have to memorize in your Muscle Memory through daily use.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 20 will be available exactly one week later at the company's next Unpacked event on August 5. We expect different versions, but all will be powered by the brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus (or Exynos 990 in non-US regions) backed by 8 to 12 gigabytes of RAM. The regular version will likely have a plastic back and be limited to 60Hz, while the Ultra model will come with a 120Hz screen and all the usual bells and whistles expected of a high-end Samsung flagship.
