iphone12 leak reveals 9 May. 8 Release date

Rumors of a new iPhone 12 are circulating, and according to Twitter leaker @ihacktu, the iPhone event will be held in September as usual, but the iPhone 12 release date will not be known until October. That month, Apple is said to be holding another event focused on Mac hardware.

Specifically, iHacktu tweeted that Apple will hold an online-only event on September 8 to introduce the new iPhone, Apple Watch 6, the new iPad, and the highly anticipated AirPower wireless charger. iHacktu followed up its tweet, stating that the event may take place in September, but the phones will not ship until October.

Even though iHacktu's past leaks have been reasonably correct, we are a bit skeptical about these claims. while September 8 certainly coincides with Apple's recent iPhone event, we would not wait another month to ship the phone.

Apple is not going to be the only one to make this claim.

Apple typically ships phones within two weeks of their announcement. There is an exception, the iPhone X did not ship until almost two months after its announcement, but Apple had already shipped the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus in that time.

Holding the event on September 8 for an October product announcement might make sense if Apple were to hold the event in-person and could not easily change venues. However, Apple's iPhone 12 launch is likely to be an online-only event, and if Apple follows the pattern set at the June Worldwide Developer conference, much of the presentation may be pre-recorded. This means that Apple could time the iPhone 12 event to coincide with the phone's readiness for launch.

This is not to say that the iPhone 12 will not ship in October or that the four models Apple is working on will not be rolled out in phases, but that the timing described in iHacktu's tweet sounds a bit suspicious given Apple's typical approach.

Furthermore, AirPower -- first promised at the 2017 iPhone X launch and then discontinued in 2019 -- will likely not appear. Rumors suggest that Apple is trying to bring back the charging mat with an eye toward a September 2020 launch, but its inclusion in the September 8 event still seems unlikely.

As for the October 27 event, there will be a separate event featuring the new iPad Pro and Apple's Silicon Mac lineup, which includes the new MacBook and MacBook Pro 13-inch models. Oddly enough, iHacktu also claims that Apple may even announce the mysterious Apple Glass augmented reality headset at that time.

Again, even if the majority of Apple Silicon Macs will not appear until 2021, there are rumors that new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models with Apple chips may appear this year. The most optimistic rumors suggest that AR products will be ready in the spring of 2021, but many Apple watchers see 2022 or 2023 as more likely.

Since Apple tends not to reveal its hand, an early September iPhone 12 launch event will not be confirmed until mid-August at the earliest.
