Avatar 2 was delayed again: release date, plot, images and everything else we know

[Avatar 2] has been further postponed. Yes, the sequel to James Cameron's blockbuster 3D action film was to be released (well, there are many). However, the director announced that the pandemic has hit a wall in production. [And for those eager to learn more about what went right with "Avatar," the concept art and images shared seem to indicate that another tripping adventure awaits. Additionally, plot details shared by the producers suggest that "Avatar 2" will find a way to show a new angle on the Na'vi world.

Here is everything we know about "Avatar 2," including release date, plot, and film art.

"Avatar 2" was scheduled to be released on December 17, 2021. This is the date previously announced on 20th Century Pictures' website Avatar.com. It seemed as if Cameron was trying to plant a flag on the ground, perhaps hoping to wrest the ground ceded by the Star Wars films by the Avatar franchise. [However, as of July 23, it is not known when "Avatar 2" will be released. The Avatar official tweeted a letter from Cameron explaining that the film's holiday release has been canceled "due to the impact the pandemic has had on our schedule."

According to a Facebook post made on the film franchise's official page, "Avatar 2" began production on April 22, 2017. The page showed four release dates for the discontinued or changed Avatar films, claiming that "Avatar 2" would be released in December 2020.

According to the previously announced release dates ("Avatar 3" on December 22, 2023, "Avatar 4" on December 19, 2025, and "Avatar 5" on December 17, 2027), "Avatar 3" will be released two years after "Avatar 2" and "Avatar 4" and "Avatar 5" will will be released two years after "Avatar 2" and "Avatar 4" and "Avatar 5" will be released two years later. The release dates for these films would be December 2022, December 2024, December 2026, and December 2028.

Jon Landau, producer of Avatar 2, teased the new storyline to the New Zealand website RNZ, saying, "This is the story of the Sully family and what people do to unite families. Jake and Neytiri have a family in the film, are forced to leave home, and explore different areas of Pandora.

James Cameron confirmed the legitimacy of the possible sequel titles for ET. Those movie titles are (apparently in no particular order):

Expect the entire cast of "Avatar 1" and numerous A-list additions. Yes, Sam Worthington returns as Jake Sully, a soldier in love with a Na'vi named Neytiri.

Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Lang, and Sigourney Weaver return as well, the latter in a new role.

New to the cast is Kate Winslet as Ronal, a freediver and Na'vi on the Metokina. Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh, and Jemaine Clement will play humans, and Vin Diesel will appear in an unannounced role.

While set photos for Avatar 2 are not yet available, Variety obtained concept art images from Disney, which owns 20th Century Studios. The images, shown below, support producer Jon Landau's comment that the Sully family's underwater adventures are definitely a major focus of the film.

Also, the car is a Mercedes-Benz concept car, called the Vision AVTR.
