Smart Watches like Oppo's Apple Watch are finally Coming to the US

Oppo's new Apple Watch-like smartwatch finally appears to have a U.S. release date. The company teased a July 31 release date with a GIF of its latest smartwatch being put together.

The GIF shows the parts of the Oppo Watch being put together. These parts include a curved display with a very slim bezel and an optical heart rate sensor on the back; the last few frames of the GIF have the Wear OS logo, indicating that the Oppo Watch will run Google's smartwatch OS.

Oppo Watch was launched in China this March and just launched in Germany.

According to Wareable, the Oppo Watch comes in two sizes: 41mm and 46mm, larger than the Apple Watch's largest size (44mm). The curved AMOLED display has a resolution of 326 ppi, the same as the Apple Watch. However, while the Apple Watch has a digital crown and buttons on the side, the Oppo Watch simply has two buttons on the right side of the watch. It is also water resistant to 50 meters.

Although the Oppo Watch is powered by a two-generation Snapdragon Wear 2500 processor (Qualcomm recently announced the Snapdragon Wear 4100 processor), the company says the watch can last up to 40 hours on a charge. The wireless charger can also provide up to 18 hours of battery life on a 15-minute charge.

The Verge tested a Chinese model running a version of Android 8.1 called ColorOS Watch. If it is at least the same as the one leaked in Germany, it appears that the Oppo Watch will have a similar skin when it launches in the U.S. We are curious to see how it compares to the plain version of Wear OS.

Other features of the Oppo Watch (at least the German model) include a heart rate monitor, LTE capabilities, and an ECG monitor like the Apple Watch 5. However, it is unclear whether Oppo has received FDA approval. [In China, the 46mm version costs 1,999 yuan, equivalent to roughly $285 in the U.S., while the 41mm version costs 1,499 yuan, or roughly $215. This is between the Apple Watch Series 3 and the Apple Watch 5, and is not a cheap smartwatch. But for those who want an Apple Watch-like experience on Android, this may be it.
