Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra could be the first Xbox phone — here's why

What do the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the Xbox Series X have in common? The answer is optimized Project xCloud.

WinFuture reports that Samsung has partnered with Xbox to offer the first smartphone with an optimized Project xCloud experience, offering more than 90 games. The report also shows a number of attractive renderings of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

Samsung and Microsoft have had a productive relationship for some time now, but it has been mostly limited to productivity features. This includes the pre-installation of Microsoft Office apps on Samsung phones and the addition of cross-over functionality with PCs via the Your Phone app.

However, the interest that can be generated by PowerPoint and Excel is limited; the ability to play streamed Xbox games, even if only a fraction of the entire Xbox library (believed to have over 3,500 titles), would make the Note 20 Ultra a work This will be a major selling point for users who want to use the Note 20 Ultra for entertainment rather than work.

It is not clear how Samsung and Microsoft will optimize the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra for xCloud game streaming. As it stands, a beta version of Project xCloud is available on Android phones, and the experience on the Galaxy Note 10 Plus was quite impressive.

However, perhaps Microsoft will offer exclusive access to some xCloud games to those who purchase the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Alternatively, games streamed from Microsoft's custom xCloud servers may be optimized to run well on the 120 Hz refresh rate display that the Note 20 Ultra is expected to feature.

It is also possible that the Note 20 Ultra's chip and GPU will be used to smooth the game streaming experience and hardware acceleration will be used to reduce latency. It is also possible that the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra may even come with gaming peripherals and accessories to enhance the gaming experience, as it may be a stealth gaming phone. However, this is all speculation for the time being.

With the aforementioned 6.9-inch QHD display with 120Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset, and 12GB RAM, the Note 20 Ultra's rumored specs seem like the perfect device for mobile gaming. The display is also expected to feature an LTPO panel, which can dynamically lower the refresh rate to 1Hz, reducing the display's power demand and saving battery life when the Note 20 Ultra is not being used for gaming.

The Note 20 Ultra features a quad rear camera array that includes a 108MP main sensor, a 13MP 5x optical zoom telephoto sensor, a 12MP ultrawide sensor, and a laser depth sensor, while three other sensors assist with photo effects and high-speed focusing.

The standard Note 20, while less capable than the Ultra version, still looks like an attractive prospect. The basic model uses a 6.4-inch FHD display with a refresh rate of 60hZ and 8GB RAM, but uses the same Snapdragon 865 Plus chip as its larger sibling. The camera uses a 12MP main sensor, a 64MP telephoto sensor, and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, as well as a time-of-flight sensor for photo effects.

August 5 is the date of Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event, which will see the Note 20 debut. The Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Watch 3, Galaxy Tab S7, and Galaxy Z Flip 5G are also expected to be announced.
