5 Ways of Samsung Galaxy Note 20 can beat the iPhone 12

The iPhone 12 is the most anticipated phone of the year, and Apple has really upped the ante with four rumored models this time around. But don't count out Samsung's Galaxy Note 20. This flagship should have several advantages over the iPhone 12, including display, camera specs, and special features.

Samsung should pull away from the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro in several ways, especially with Apple's expected 5nm A14 Bionic processor in the new phone. Apple should once again have the fastest phone, and the iPhone 12 will run iOS 14 on day one. However, the Note 20 should beat the iPhone 12 in other respects.

Here's how the Galaxy Note 20 could outperform the iPhone 12.

According to some rumors, the iPhone 12 Pro may have a 120Hz ProMotion display, but Apple may not be able to achieve this by launch.

Even if Apple does achieve such a feature, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra should have an advantage with its 120Hz panel; the Note 20 Ultra's screen is expected to feature LTPO technology that can dynamically scale from 1Hz to 120Hz. This should make the Note 20 Ultra more efficient.

There have been rumors that Apple may eventually support the Apple Pencil on the iPhone, but there is no concrete information yet that support will be added in the iPhone 12. Therefore, for now, Samsung will likely maintain its dominance with the included S Pen.

We haven't heard much about the new features of Samsung's stylus, but one leak noted that the S Pen could be used as a virtual laser pointer, which would be useful for presentations. The S Pen is also rumored to have a reaction time of 9 milliseconds. The Galaxy Note 10 added new features such as air-action gestures and better handwriting recognition, so other upgrades are expected this time around as well.

While we don't know much about the iPhone 12's camera improvements, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra should be a formidable competitor for Apple. Samsung's premium flagship will reportedly feature a high-resolution 108MP main camera with a 13MP telephoto lens capable of 50x hybrid zoom; add a 12MP ultra-wide sensor and a dedicated laser focus sensor, and the iPhone 12 Pro might have a hard time keeping up.

The regular Galaxy Note 20 shouldn't be outdone in the camera department either, with a 12MP main camera, a 64MP telephoto lens, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a time-of-flight sensor expected that should help with portrait and possibly augmented reality (AR) performance. Rumor has it that the iPhone 12 Pro Max will offer a LiDAR scanner for AR and photo/video effects. iPad Pro currently has such a sensor, which may be included in the iPhone 12 Max, but not in the regular iPhone 12 Pro It might.

First, we want to say that battery size is only one factor in determining battery life. However, at least on paper, the Galaxy Note 20 series appears to have the potential to beat the iPhone 12 with its overwhelming battery capacity. Rumors suggest that the regular Galaxy Note 20 will have a 4,300 mAh battery, while the Note 20 Ultra will have a 5,000 mAh battery.

The iPhone 12 Pro series is said to have a much smaller battery overall. The largest battery will be the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max with 3,687 mAh; the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Max will have a 2,775 mAh battery, and the smallest 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will have a 2,227 mAh battery. Apple can make up this difference with the A14 Bionic chip and software, but the battery sizes of the two flagships are quite different.

The iPhone 12 is rumored not to ship with a charger. Instead, only a USB-C-Lightning cable will be included, requiring the use of another mini power brick lying around. Sure, such a move would be good for the environment - and Apple's profit margins - but we think many people would prefer that a charger be included.

Samsung is rumored to stop bundling chargers at some point, but it won't be until next year's Galaxy S30 at least.
