Xbox Series X Events: What to Expect from this Week's Xbox Game Showcase

The biggest Xbox Series X event is just days away, with the PS5 live stream in June revealing new Spider-Man and Horizon games, as well as the console itself.

The Xbox Games Showcase, which kicks off on July 23 at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET, will feature world premieres of new games coming to the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC, as well as a deep dive into Microsoft's announced titles. Xbox Games Here's what you should and shouldn't expect from the Showcase.

The Xbox Games Showcase will be the unveiling party for "Halo Infinite," the highly anticipated new installment in Microsoft's flagship shooter series In a post on Xbox Wire, Xbox Games marketing lead Aaron Greenberg said that the new Halo game "will give us our first look at campaign gameplay."

Since its initial reveal at E3 2018, there have been small teases of "Halo Infinite," but we have yet to see proper gameplay footage. A few weeks ago, developer 343 studios posted a cryptic warning on Twitter, suggesting that the Banished faction from Halo Wars 2 may return in Infinite. Our guess is that "Halo Infinite" will start or close the show with a fair amount of single-player action, and based on Greenberg's remarks, those interested in competitive multiplayer in "Infinite" will likely have to wait a bit longer.

Greenberg's recent tweet suggests that the Games Showcase will be "about an hour long" and completely focused on games; Xbox has not confirmed what other titles will be on display, but "Hellblade 2" and "Everwild" as well as third-party titles like "Madden NFL 21" and "Marvel's Avengers," we expect to see more in-depth exploration of these already announced Xbox exclusives.

Greenberg stated in his post that "Xbox Game Studios is moving the industry forward with a wide variety of games," and new exclusive titles are expected to be announced. A new installment of the "Forza" racing franchise, which has been released almost every year, seems certain, and a new installment of the "Gears of War" series is also likely. But what else does Microsoft have up its sleeve?

Fans have been clamoring for a "Fable 4" for years, and recent rumors and trademark applications suggest that a new installment of Microsoft's popular RPG series may be in the works. There has also been speculation surrounding a new Perfect Dark title, as Microsoft has registered a placeholder Twitter account for this classic first-person shooter IP. an announcement of these two at the Xbox Game Showcase seems a bit of a stretch, but we will find out anyway in a few days.

Greenberg has stated that there will be "no business, devices, or similar news" at the Xbox Games Showcase. Therefore, it is unlikely that we will learn the price or release date of the Xbox Series X at this event.

This mention of a "device" also suggests that we will not see the Xbox Series S, which has long been rumored to be a cheaper version of the Xbox Series X and could arrive as early as this year. eurogamer recently reported that the Series S announcement is set for August and it is possible that Microsoft is planning a dedicated hardware event next month.
