Microsoft Edge got a Killer feature to Beat Chrome — How to Use It

Microsoft Edge has added a new feature to tempt users from Google Chrome by adding an option to force dark mode even if the web page does not support it.

Based on the same engine as Chrome's Dark Mode, Edge's version changes the colors of website backgrounds, text, and other elements on the page, effectively forcing dark mode on the site. For those who surf the web at night, this forced dark mode reduces the strain on the eyes when flipping through web pages.

Google Chrome also used to force dark mode on websites, but this was a feature of the Canary experimental browser and had to be enabled by the user. Google has since removed this option.

However, mobile site MobiGyaan discovered that such a feature still exists in the Edge browser. However, it is not present in a simple drop-down option or in the browser's submenu, so it must be forced to be enabled.

Sibling site TechRadar notes that to do this, one must type edge://flags/#enable-force-dark in the Edge address bar. Once enabled, restart Edge and enable force-dark mode.

With force-dark mode enabled, Edge will change the color scheme to appear darker when you visit the site. The effect varies, and according to TechRadar, forced dark mode may affect everything on a web page, while some elements, such as image colors, may remain unchanged.

This is a small addition and one that many may overlook. However, the fact that forced dark mode is now in Edge and no longer in Chrome may tempt people to switch from Google's browser to Microsoft's web surfing app.
