Oppo has revealed a series of fast chargers that promise to charge cell phone batteries at speeds that Samsung, Apple, and even fast charging enthusiast OnePlus can only dream of.

A few days ago, the Chinese phone maker teased that 125W charging would be the next big step in finding a way to charge cell phone batteries at blazing speeds. Now the company is taking the covers off its 125W Flash Charging plug-in charger, which promises to fill a 4,000 mAh battery in just 20 minutes.

Comparatively, the OnePlus 8 Pro with the fast charger WarpCharge 30T can fill the 4,510 mAh battery pack to 70% in the same time frame. While not a perfect comparison, Oppo's new charging technology appears to beat OnePlus, which is no mean feat since OnePlus has long been considered the flagship of fast charging technology. [Interestingly, it was Oppo that developed the technology behind OnePlus' Dash Charge system. In other words, the two companies have a close relationship when it comes to fast charging.

Oppo showed off its fast charging capabilities last year with its 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charger. The charger was able to fill a 4,000 mAh battery in 30 minutes, and while 125W charging technology does not cut charging time in half, a 10-minute reduction is still quite impressive and would be useful for those who need to quickly charge their phones before leaving the house or office.

A caveat here is that Oppo has not revealed which models will feature the 125W charging technology. Fast charging will likely become a standard feature on future Oppo phones. By comparison, the Galaxy Note 20 is said to offer a charging speed as high as 45W, but will likely come standard with a 25W charger. And the iPhone 12 is said to support 20W charging, but may not have a charger in the box.

Aside from the 125W charger, Oppo also unveiled a 65W AirWOOC wireless charger. Oppo claims it can charge a 4,000mAh battery in 30 minutes. This surpasses the Warp Charge 30 wireless charger for the OnePlus 8 Pro, which in our tests was able to charge to 55% in just 30 minutes.

In addition to these two chargers, Oppo also unveiled a mini version of its fast charging technology: the 110W Mini Flash Charger is the same size as a traditional 18W charger, but has considerably more power; it can charge a 4,000mAh battery in 20 minutes, but its 125W brother The initial charge rate will be slower than that of its 125W sibling.

The 50W mini SuperVOOC Charger is a pocket-friendly charger the size of a business card holder, but can charge a 4,000mAh battery in 42 minutes.

These four chargers show that Oppo is leading the next generation of fast charging technology: cell phones with 120Hz refresh rate displays, 5G connectivity, and faster CPUs are increasingly power hungry. Therefore, fast charging will become a necessity when purchasing a cell phone.

We will have to see how the rest of the smartphone industry reacts as Oppo incorporates this fast charging technology into their new phones.
