iPhone12 Leak Reveals New Braided USB-C to Lightning Cable

Attention has turned to what you won't get when you purchase an iPhone 12 this fall. Apple reportedly will not include a charger and wired earbuds with this year's phone. But what about the accessories you will find when you first open the iPhone 12 box?

Perhaps small comfort to some iPhone fans, a Twitter leaker who focuses on Apple news claimed that the iPhone 12 will replace the standard charging cable that has long come with the iPhone with a braided USB-C to Lightning charging cable will be bundled.

The claim, retweeted by @L0vetodream, represents a small upgrade for iPhone 12 buyers. The braided charging cable is considered more durable than the standard one, so this cable should last longer and be less likely to fray - good news if you've already paid the reported $649+ for one of Apple's new phones.

Whether the better charging cable will pay for the lack of other accessories when the iPhone 12 ships this fall is debatable, but it's also what most iPhone 12 rumors are pointing to. back in May, analyst Ming- Chi Kuo reported that Apple would not bundle wired EarPods with its new phone, while rumors of a missing charging block gained momentum in June. A rendering of what the iPhone 12 packaging will look like includes the new phone, a charging cable, and space for everything else.

Apple is obviously ditching these accessories to avoid e-waste. After all, most of us already have wired headphones and charging bricks. But cynics also point out that by omitting these accessories from the iPhone 12 box, shoppers will be forced to buy their own gear.

We don't know how certain this rumor of a braided charging cable is, but @L0vetodream is a frequent source of Apple-related rumors, ranging from the amount of RAM expected in the iPhone 12 to the lack of chargers. We will know for sure later this fall when the iPhone 12 is expected to arrive in four different models, all of which should offer OLED screens and 5G compatibility.
