Stunning Samsung Galaxy Note 20 revealed in new leak

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 is about to launch, and a handful of new leaks have us both excited and worried about the phone's arrival.

Based on a total of three leaks, two from Twitter tipster Ice Universe and one from Korean news site DDaily (via SamMobile), we now know the phone's overall design as well as the display and processor We know more details. And there is a bit of bad news regarding the 120Hz screen.

After releasing unofficial renderings of the smaller Note 20 yesterday, Ice Universe has now given the Note 20 Ultra the same treatment. These images are not official, but Ice Universe has an excellent track record, so these should be pretty close to the real thing.

The shape looks almost identical to the Galaxy Note 20, but the Note 20 Ultra is known to be larger overall. In this render, we can also see the top edge of the phone. On the right side appears to be the SIM tray.

The render of the Note 20 Ultra also shows a slightly curved display. The standard Note 20 has a flatter panel and one less camera in the rear array.

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra renderings show four rear lenses on a large camera bump; expect a 108MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 12MP telephoto capable of 50x zoom. Additionally, the Note 20 Ultra will add a laser autofocus sensor. The latter should help the Galaxy S20 Ultra avoid some of the problems it faced and will also improve the quality of portrait mode and other photography effects.

Ice Universe further discusses the Galaxy Note 20's refresh rate in a separate tweet: leakers who have obtained the latest version of the Note 20 Ultra's firmware have found that although there is an adaptive 120Hz mode, the maximum refresh rate and maximum QHD resolution, he stated that there is no option to use both.

Since the launch of the Galaxy S20 series, there have been questions about the exact capabilities of the Note 20's display; while all S20 models have 120Hz refresh rate displays, this can only be be achieved. Using the full QHD resolution of the screen would mean limiting the display to the standard 60 Hz.

Currently, the basic Note 20 appears to use a 60Hz FHD display, similar to the Galaxy Note 10; only the Note 20 Ultra will feature 120Hz and QHD, but Samsung has yet to let it use both simultaneously.

The last interesting piece of information on the Galaxy Note 20 comes from DDaily and concerns the phone's chipset in Korea. According to the report, the Note 20 handset in Korea will use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865 Plus instead of the Exynos 992. This is reportedly due to the better GPU performance of the Snapdragon chip.

This claim seems likely since the Korean version of the S20 also used a Snapdragon chip. Typically, all of Samsung's flagships, with the exception of those sold in the U.S. and China, use the Snapdragon chipset, as all versions are powered by Samsung's Exynos chipset.

We should be able to see the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in full at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event on August 5. And while it looks like a beast of an Android phone, we'd like to see the S Pen features and especially the price before we say whether we're really excited or not.The Galaxy Note 20 lineup includes the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Tab S7, Galaxy Watch 3 will likely join them at Samsung's event.

There may be a brief mention of Samsung's other big fall smartphone announcement, the Galaxy Fold 2. However, the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra should be the stars of the show.
