Samsung Z Galaxy Fold 2 release date just leaked - and that's good news

Recent leaks suggested that the Galaxy Fold 2 might miss its big moment in the spotlight. However, it appears that Samsung's next foldable phone will be unveiled next month as planned and will go on sale shortly thereafter.

A new tweet from Ice Universe claims that the Fold 2 will be revealed at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event on August 5 and will be available for purchase at least in China starting September 20.

This differs from rumors we have heard recently, with one rumor suggesting that the Fold 2 would not be ready for Galaxy Unpacked due to software issues. However, Max Weinbach, the source of this old rumor, has since changed his prediction and now states that Fold 2 will be seen at the August 5 event.

Weinbach said that the Fold 2 would launch in October, not September. The launch of the original Galaxy Fold was staggered a bit, but all major smartphone markets saw the first generation of the Fold in September 2019. Therefore, it seems reasonable to expect both Weinbach and IU to be correct in their rumors, but for the US and Chinese markets, respectively.

According to Weinbach, the reason for this delay and staggered release is that Samsung is focusing on the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Z Flip 5G models and expects these models to be much bigger sellers than the Fold 2. While this would be an overall benefit to Samsung, it could delay the Fold 2's arrival in some markets significantly more than others.

The Fold 2 is expected to feature a 7.7" 120Hz internal display and a 60Hz 6.23" display on the front, a Snapdragon 865 chipset and 12GB RAM, a quad camera on the back, and front and internal displays with likely to have a single sensor embedded as a punch hole notch. Stay tuned for more details about this device as Samsung's August 5 event approaches.
