Windows10 could get the first new Apple app in a few years

Windows 10 may soon be available with new apps that Apple has added to Microsoft's operating system for the first time in several years.

Aggiornamenti Lumia (via 9to5Mac) reported in a tweet that Apple is preparing an application that can be distributed via the Microsoft Store Apple is hiring developers who specialize in Windows compatible apps. It has been known for some time, and it appears that the first fruits of this project are about to be released.

While Windows users only have access to iTunes as a gateway to Apple's ecosystem, Mac users have seen iTunes split into smaller, more focused apps in recent years. Thus, this new app may be a port of one of these dedicated apps, including Apple Music, which already has its own Mac app. There is also the Apple TV option, as Windows users will have more direct access to Apple's streaming offerings via Apple TV Plus.

However, an alternative iTunes app would be great for Windows users. The iPhone and iPad have evolved a lot since the first Windows 10 iTunes app was released in 2018, and a new version that ties together all the changes Apple has made would be a huge benefit to Windows users.

The framework used for the Windows 10 app, the Universal Windows Platform (UWP), will also work with the app for the Xbox One. This means that this new Apple app could appear on the Xbox Series X in the future, and other apps could follow.
