Google Chrome Upgrade Promises Great Battery Life Improvements for Macbook

Google Chrome on MacBooks, Macs, and other devices will see significant improvements in the near future due to improved power efficiency.

We know this thanks to a report by Joanna Stern of The Wall Street Journal. The report looks at flaws in popular browsers (and suggests moving to either Safari or Edge, depending on whether you are a Mac or Windows user), but the WSJ also asked what Google plans to do to fix these commonly observed problems We spoke to Google about what Google plans to do to fix these commonly observed problems.

The problem Chrome users face is that ads and inactive tabs consume unnecessary power, both in terms of battery life and RAM processing. However, Google developers are working to solve this problem; when interviewed by the WSJ, Max Kristof, Google's director of Chrome browser engineering, said, "I view Chrome's performance as a journey, not a destination."

"This is an ongoing investment in improving speed, performance, and battery life.

According to Kristof, Google is working on three major upgrades to Chrome.

Kristof claims that these changes will have a "dramatic impact on battery and performance." He also said he is encouraged by early tests on Mac laptops.

Google cannot make this move soon enough. Apple is putting a great deal of effort into improving Safari. One of the upcoming changes is to make it easier for developers to turn Chrome-designed browser extensions into Safari-compatible ones, which would give users one less reason to use Google's browser instead of Apple's.

And the new Edge browser, based on Chromium, has received fairly positive reviews. And the WSJ found that it has better battery life than Google's Chrome. So, with users considering switching, Google is under pressure to make these changes as soon as possible.
