Your bike just got more personal: Superstrata's new bike uses your own measurements to 3D print a custom unibody carbon fiber frame.

Superstrata offers two versions of this bike: the traditional road bike Terra ($2,799) and the e-bike Ion ($3,999), but the company is offering a special pre-order price of $1,499 for the Terra and $1,999 for the Ion Superstrata can be ordered through its Indiegogo page, and shipping is expected to begin in December.

Everything about the bike, down to the spokes, is made to order; when ordering the Superstrata, the customer is asked for his or her height, inseam, weight, and arm length. According to the company, even someone who is 1.5 meters tall and weighs 1.5 kilograms can have a bike built.

Next, the customer chooses from three different riding styles, three different wheel types (spoke, carbon fiber, etc.), six different colors, three different tire types, and three different drive trains. Superstrata then produces a two-wheeled vehicle that fits more snugly than a pair of bicycle shorts.

Carbon fiber is known for its lightweight yet sturdy construction, and Superstrata's frames weigh only 2.4 to 3.1 pounds, depending on the rider's size and e-bike option. Total ion weight will be approximately 24 lbs.

As for components, Superstrata does not feature anything particularly high-end. It will be an 8-speed bike with mechanical disc brakes. However, the frame does incorporate a headlight and taillight, as well as electronic components that make it easy for riders to add wheel sensors and anti-theft devices.

The Superstrata Ion is powered by a 7ah/36V/252Wh battery with a range of 60 miles and a top speed of 20 mph, according to the company. It has a 250-watt hub-mounted motor in the rear, which the company says should perform similarly to the Specialized Turbo (price range $2,300 to $9,000) The Superstrata's battery is replaceable, but cannot be easily removed like other e-bikes. Arevo has been showing off its concept e-bike at various trade shows over the past year and has decided to launch the Superstrata as a way to promote its carbon fiber printing technology. The Superstrata was designed by Bill Stevens of Studiowest, a design consultancy whose clients include major bicycle manufacturers such as Cannondale, Schwinn, and Raleigh. Superstrata bikes are not cheap, but their price is about the same as the price of a typical carbon fiber bike. But the fact that a company can mass produce custom carbon fiber bikes means that in the future, everyone may be riding a bike made just for them.
