Google Pixel4a's release date just leaked — here's the time to expect it

You might have thought that the Google Pixel 4a would never be released because of so many reported delays. However, it appears we were too quick to give up hope.

Tech leaker Jon Prosser pulled another rabbit out of the ether, tweeting that August 3 is the date "in the system" for Google to release its next cheap glass Pixel phone. And Google just recently moved to that date, he said.

Prosser also noted that the previous release date was July 13 (this coming Monday), but that date "just jumped up." He is not sure what caused the three-week delay, but he seems quite confident.

Prosser also dismissed the possibility of the Pixel 4a being rebranded to Pixel 5a because of the window between the Pixel 4's September 2019 release date and August 3 -- which is almost a year.

Previously, the leaker had claimed that the just-black Pixel 4a would be the first to hit virtual shelves (on August 6) while the crisp blue edition would be delayed until October 1. However, Prosser later said that the Blue version would not be on the system for long and that color could be canceled.

The Pixel 4a's rumored specs seem quite compelling for its $349 price, including a 5.8-inch OLED display, Snapdragon 730 processor, and top-notch camera. However, the device will likely not feature 5G connectivity.

Just today we learned that Google may be preparing a Pixel 4a 5G model, but this is not confirmed; whether the Pixel 4a will be worth the wait and be able to compete with both the iPhone SE and OnePlus Nord remains to be seen. It remains to be seen.
