Forget the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 — this rival has a crazy fast 100W charge

With the August release of the Galaxy Note 20 fast approaching, the OnePlus 8T is likely to follow shortly after. However, performance-conscious smartphone fans may be distracted by Realme's newly rumored 100W+ charging technology.

Ishan Agarwal (via 91mobiles) tweeted a claim that the Chinese cell phone company is working on an "Ultra Dart" charging standard. This apparently provides 100-120W of charging and can fill an average 4,000mAh smartphone battery up to a third of the way in just three minutes. [Realme is not currently an established brand in either the UK or the US. But BBK Electronics' peers Oppo and OnePlus are. Both companies have shared technology in the past, and thus this UltraDart standard may be included in future OnePlus phones.

Realme already offers 65W charging, known as SuperDart, in its X50 Pro 5G and other phones, and Oppo offers the same wattage in its Find X2. We had previously hoped that OnePlus would adopt this in the OnePlus 8T, which is expected to arrive this October, and now, of course, we are praying that OnePlus will decide to adopt the rumored even better standard.

There are already a number of excellent fast chargers on the market; OnePlus has the 30W Warp Charge 30T standard and a new 30W Warp Charge 30 Wireless option for the OnePlus 8 Pro. Huawei offered up to 45W wired charging and 27W wireless charging with the P40 Pro, and Xiaomi offered 50W wired charging and 30W wireless charging with the Mi 10 Pro. And while these are all good things, they are clearly inferior to Realme's 100W charging leak.

With the OnePlus 8T still months away and major rumors about its specs yet to materialize, the Android world's attention will turn to the Note 20 announcement, which is expected to take place at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event on August 5. Samsung offers up to 45W charging, but that is only for certain models like the Galaxy S20 Ultra with a separate charger, and most flagships ship with a 25W charger.

The highest spec Note 20, which is believed to be the Note 20 Ultra, is expected to offer a 45W option and a modestly sized battery of 4,000 to 5,000 mAh. Again, we hope this is better now that we know that Realme allows for faster communication.
