We've seen a number of rumors about the iPhone 12 price, all of which were positive. Now, one analyst has poured cold water on these upbeat predictions.

Taipei-based analyst Jeff Pu of Yuanta Investment Consulting provided MacRumors with a research note predicting that the iPhone 12 will start at $749 for the 5.4-inch model. This would be $50 more than last year's 6.1-inch iPhone 11.

To make matters worse, this price prediction is $100 higher than the price leaked by Apple analyst John Prosser. He stated that the iPhone 12 will start at $649 for the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 and $749 for the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max.

This price increase comes despite the fact that neither the wall charger nor the EarPods are expected to be bundled with the iPhone 12. So why the price increase, which is likely primarily due to the 5G connection, which Pu believes will make the price increase "more acceptable to consumers."

Another recent rumor had the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 starting as low as $549 for the 4G-only version, but this new analyst note makes that increasingly far-fetched.

So where does the price go from here? According to MacRumors, the iPhone 12 Max will probably cost $50 to $100 more than the iPhone 12, bringing the price to $799 or $849.

Previously, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max were projected to cost $999 and $1,099, respectively. However, Pu's note does not mention those more premium devices.

In addition to 5G, the iPhone 12 is expected to offer a faster A13 Bionic chip, improved cameras, and a larger battery. It is also expected to have a slimmer design with flatter sides, similar to the iPad Pro.

The iPhone 12 should have two cameras, but the iPhone 12 Pro model will likely add a LiDAR sensor for augmented reality apps in addition to a telephoto lens. iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max area expected to feature 120Hz ProMotion display is also rumored to be included.

If $749 is the starting price, the iPhone 12 would still be $250 cheaper than the $999 Galaxy S20. However, the Galaxy S20 offers a larger 6.2-inch display with a 120Hz display as standard.
