The Umbrella Academy Season 2 trailer is here - watch it now

Netflix's first official trailer for "Umbrella Academy 2" shows the end of the world as we know it again. The superhero Hargreaves siblings are back and time-travel to the JFK assassination circa 1963. When Season 2 premieres on July 31, they must stop the apocalypse, hopefully for good.

Based on the comic book by Gerard Way and Gabriel Barr, "Umbrella Academy" centers on the extremely dysfunctional Hargreaves family. The patriarch, Sir Reginald Hargreaves, has adopted seven babies of mysterious and supernatural birth and turned them into a team of superheroes. In season one, the brothers are reunited after the death of their father, and some dark secrets are revealed.

One of them was that Vanya (Ellen Page) is not super-like, but rather possesses immense power to bring about the end of the world. Her brothers can't stop it, so the time-traveling Number 5 (Aidan Gallagher) takes them all ... back in time.

Unfortunately, as the trailer proves, the past is the present as Number Five tells his brothers, "We brought the end of the world back here."

Umbrella Academy Season 2 begins with the Hargreaves family scattered for three years in Dallas, Texas. They find themselves in some awkward or interesting situations: Klaus (Robert Sheehan) is about to become a cult leader, ghost Ben (Justin H. Ming) is going along for the ride, Luther (Tom Hopper) might join a fight club, and Diego ( David CastaƱeda) appears to be in a mental hospital, and Alison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) joins a civil rights sit-in.

Number Five must reunite them all and find a way to truly prevent the apocalypse this time and return to normal hours.

The trailer also premieres new characters, including a trio of very scary and cold Swedish assassins. Also featured are Yusef Gatewood as the smart and confident Raymond, Marin Ireland as his fearless mother Sissi, and Ritu Arya as the sassy Laila.

Umbrella Academy was one of Netflix's biggest hits in 2019. Luckily, Season 2 was filmed late last year, so it was already banked before the coronavirus pandemic shut down most film and TV productions.
