Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Leak revealed just a handy S pen upgrade

A new feature, a laser pointer/cursor function, has been added to the Galaxy Note 20's S Pen stylus.

Jimmy Is Promo (via XDA Developers) has released a configuration screen for this feature, explaining that the pointer can be used by pressing and moving the side button of the stylus.

The S Pen looks a lot like the stylus on the Galaxy Note 10, but this is an interesting new feature based on the air gestures that Samsung added to the previous generation; as the Note 20 screen shows, you can choose the color of the pointer and change its size and how the trail is displayed. It also appears to work as a cursor, allowing you to highlight areas, select icons, and move around the phone based on what Jimmy is writing in his tweets.

Samsung likes to push its DeX smartphone desktop software with the Galaxy Note series, so the addition of a built-in laser pointer is in line with the idea that a larger tablet or even a laptop could replace the Note 20 It fits the bill. The system has yet to become a big hit, but Samsung is clearly still working on improvements.

An earlier leak from Jimmy Is Promo showed the Note 20 Ultra design. The older leak proved to be mostly accurate, and Samsung aimed for a more boxy design with sharper corners compared to the Galaxy S20 series, but kept the curved display, central punch hole camera, large rectangular camera bump on the back, three main sensors and a depth sensor based on other rumors.

The Note 20 is also expected to feature a Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset and 12GB RAM, with battery capacity ranging from 4,000 mAh to 5,000 mAh depending on the version.

Some interesting details were also revealed in the replies Jimmy made to comments in this thread. For example, the rumor that the S Pen will have a microphone is apparently false.

A major concern regarding the Note 20's display is whether it will be able to manage both a QHD resolution and a high 120 Hz refresh rate simultaneously. The Galaxy S20 series could only support 60Hz QHD resolution and 120Hz 1080p, disappointing some users. Unfortunately, according to Jimmy, this situation remains the same with his Note 20 Ultra, but he believes this could change with a software update before launch.

Samsung has now announced that the Galaxy Unpacked event will be held on August 5. The teaser for this event shows what appears to be an S Pen stylus, which seems to confirm everyone's suspicions that the Note 20 will debut here. Other big Samsung product announcements are also expected, including the Galaxy Fold 2, Galaxy Watch 3, and Galaxy Tab S7 tablet.
