Amazon Prime Video will eventually add user profiles — here's how to create them

Amazon Prime Video user profiles are finally rolling out globally, allowing family and friends who share an Amazon Prime membership account to create their own watch lists and track their viewing. This puts Prime Video on par with Netflix and Disney Plus.

The company announced that each Amazon Prime account can have up to six user profiles; one profile will be the default for the primary account holder, with five additional profiles that can be set up for adults or children. The children's account will come with parental controls that limit the type of content that is displayed.

This is the first time in many years that individual user profiles have appeared on Prime Video. Rivals Netflix and Hulu have offered them for years, as have new streaming services like HBO Max and Disney Plus, and NBC's Peacock, which launches July 14, will also reportedly have profiles.

Each Prime Video profile can set up its own watch list, track season and episode progress, and get personalized recommendations based on viewing activity.

Prime Video Kids profiles allow parents to more easily control what their children watch. Purchases are disabled and only TV shows and movies with content ratings for ages 12 and under are displayed (including search results and suggestions).

The new profiles can be accessed through the Prime Video app on iOS, Android, the Prime Video app on Fire tablets (10th generation and later), and the Fire TV Prime Video app, as well as the Prime Video app on certain other streaming devices.

The profiles will be offered in phases, so they may not be available immediately. In that case, here is how to set it up.

If you want to manage or remove a Prime Video profile, follow the instructions for adding a new profile. Open the Profile Picker menu and select "Manage Profiles." From there, you can select the profile icon you wish to manage or delete.
